Filmmaker killed by giraffe while shooting movie in South Africa

Award-winning filmmaker Carlos Carvalho died after an accident while shooting a game lodge in South AfricaHe was tragically killed when a giraffe attacked him while he was getting a shot of the animal.

Carvalho had been working on the majority of a series about a British family who have set up a game lodge in South Africa. While shooting a closeup of Gerald the giraffe’s body and feet at the Glen Afric Country Lodge, the animal became “inquisitive” and headbutted him sending him 16 feet in the air and causing massive head injuries.

After the attack, he was airlifted to Johannesburg’s Milpark Hospital. He died on Wednesday night from his injuries. Carlos was filming a feature at Glen Afric and had a fatal run in with a giraffe on set. He was flown to Milpark Hospital but succumbed to his injuries 20:50 last night. Our thoughts and condolences go out to Carlo’s family and friends during this very sad time. He will be sorely missed.”

Carvahlo won the Silver Lion at the Cannes Film Festival in 2003 for a public service announcement for “Childline.” He was also honored in 2014 with an African Movie Academy Cinematography Award for his work on “The Forgotten Kingdom.”

Akhumzi Jezile’s funeral details

The family of the now late television producer confirmed that they would bury Akhumzi this coming Saturday, Akhumzi will be laid to rest in Johannesburg.

Family spokesperson Percy Vilakazi briefed the media on Monday and explained that the family is still in utter shock over the passing of Akhumzi, Siyasanga and Thobani who died in a fatal car crash in the early hours of Saturday morning.

In an interview on Metro FM, Percy said that Akhumzi was going to the Eastern Cape for his uncle’s wedding and then a funeral of another family member.

Akhumzi’s memorial service will be held on Thursday at the Rhema Bible Church in Randburg, Johannesburg and his industry peers are currently working at giving him a beautiful send off. Everyone is said to be welcomed to join the memorial service.

Jezile’s best friend Musa Mthombeni struggled to hold back his tears as he recalled the day he heard about the tragedy.

“One week ago, I received a call that changed my life.

“My life was thrown off its axis and since then, I have been spinning endlessly in a profound state of confusion.

“I find it very hard to believe that any of this is happening. I am so puzzled by all that’s been happening,” he added.

Jezile’s best friend Musa Mthombeni struggled to hold back his tears as he recalled the day he heard about the tragedy.
