The recent passing of Pretoria-based DJ and comedian, Peter Mashata, has cast a heavy shadow over the South African entertainment scene. Mashata, known for his contagious laughter and lively persona, met a tragic end that has left his friends, colleagues, and fans reeling in shock and sorrow.


 

In the early hours of Sunday morning, while driving near Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) in Soshanguve, Mashata and an unnamed companion were suddenly ambushed. Gunfire shattered the calm of the night, abruptly ending Mashata’s life in a senseless act of violence.

Despite efforts to save him, Mashata succumbed to his injuries at Akasia Hospital, leaving behind a profound void in the hearts of those who cherished him.

Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Noxolo Kweza, speaking to Pretoria Rekord, confirmed that investigations into the incident are underway, with murder and attempted murder cases opened by Tshwane police.
