Remember The Poor Graduate Who Didn’t Have Nice Clothes For His Graduation

On Thursday, Dumisani Ngobese, a graduate of the University of KwaZulu-Natal, was beaming. When he cried last year, everything was absolutely different.

Since he didn’t have formal trousers to go to the function, Ngobese won the hearts of South Africans.

Like other grads, he dressed to impress this year by donning a tailored blue suit, a fresh white shirt, a striped tie, and dark brown shoes.

After Ngobese’s BA degree was awarded last year, a video of him sobbing went viral, and the young man from the Empangeni community of Bhukhanana received an influx of offers to assist him.

The 16-child family in which Ngobese was reared by his grandmother resulted in him being hired without him having to apply. Calvin Mathibeli, a businessman from Durban, made him an offer of employment soon after his pictures started to become viral on social media.

Because Ngobese’s tale touched Mathibeli so deeply, he made the decision to provide him a permanent position and fund his honors degree.

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme paid for Ngobese’s first degree, but he claimed that getting to that point had not been easy.

He claimed, “I had to work for what I’ve got.”

“Even though I was having problems locating pants, I was determined to step on stage. Regarding his graduation in 2022, Ngobese stated, “I informed my mother that I would be attending my graduation regardless.
