Who is Miss Supranational SA? Meet Bryoni Govender

Miss SA runner up Bryoni Govender, is representing South Africa at the Miss Supranational pageant, which takes place on Saturday 6 July in Nowy Sącz, Lesser Poland.


 

BRYONI GOVENDER REPRESENTS SA AT MISS SUPRANATIONAL
Beauty queen Bryoni Govender was the Miss SA 2023 runner up. She went on to represent South Africa at the Miss Universe pageant in November 2023. This was because reigning Miss SA Natasha Joubert decided to focus on Miss SA during her reign and opted not to compete in international pageants.

So, Bryoni is again representing South Africa, this time at the Miss Supranational pageant to be held in Poland on Saturday 6 July. Andrea Aguilera of Ecuador will crown her successor at the end of the event. Former Miss SA, Lalela Mswane, won the Miss Supranational pageant in 2022.

Lalela was the first Miss South Africa to be crowned Miss Supranational, and the first black woman to be crowned Miss Supranational. Lalela was also the first woman to wear the new Ricardo crown. The beauty queen was also the second runner up at the Miss Universe pageant in December 2021, which sparked controversy in South Africa.

While Ayanda Thabethe represented South Africa at Miss Supranational in 2023. So, who is Miss Supranational SA?

BRYONI GOVENDER IS A QUALIFIED LAWYER
Miss Supranational South Africa studied her Bachelor of Law degree (LLB) at the University of Johannesburg. She is a qualified lawyer and worked as a trainee associate. Just after placing as a Miss SA finalist, she quit her job. The beauty queen was admitted as an attorney in July 2023.

Bryoni is from Kempton Park in Johannesburg, Gauteng.

BRYONI GOVENDER IS DATING A FORMER KAIZER CHIEFS STAR
The beauty queen is in a relationship with former Kaizer Chiefs striker Samir Nurkovic. He currently plays for TS Galaxy F.C.

FIRST SOUTH AFRICAN INDIAN TO REPRESENT MZANSI AT MISS UNIVERSE SINCE 1997
Bryoni was the first person of Indian heritage to represent the country since Miss South Africa 1997 Kerishnie Naiker was placed in the Top 10 at the Miss Universe pageant in 1998. So, she was actually the second person of Indian heritage to represent South Africa at Miss Universe, ever.

“My time at Miss Universe was such an unforgettable experience filled with great memories and forming new relationships. The biggest thing I learnt is to always possess a winning mentality no matter the outcome. I believe that winning is not the only measure of success. Personal growth, learning, and self-discovery are equally important,” she said exclusively to The South African.

SHE IS 27 YEARS OLD
The beauty queen was born on 17 July 1996. So, she is currently 27 years old.

Bryoni wore a stunning glittering green gown during the Elegance Round of the Preliminary Evaluation for the judging of the 68 Miss Supranational 2024 contestants in Nowy Sącz in Poland.
