WATCH LIVE: Senzo Meyiwa murder trial

The defence in the trial of the five men charged with the murder of Senzo Meyiwa is expected to cross-examine cellphone data analyst Lieutenant-Colonel Gideon Gouws.

The matter hit a snag on Monday, 29 April after the defence indicated that they are lawyers still waiting to be furnished with some documents related to the accused’s cellphone records.

During his testimony earlier this month, Gouws told the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria that data downloaded from the cellphones of the accused indicated that there was communication between all the accused.

Retired data analyst Colonel Lambertus Steyn told the court in July 2023 that accused 5 a well-known hitman from KwaZulu-Natal Fisokuhle Ntuli called Meyiwa’s girlfriend Kelly Khumalo twice in 2014 before Meyiwa was killed.

Meyiwa was shot at Khumalo’s home in Vosloorus on 26 October 2014 in what was initially thought to be a botched robbery. Police have since indicated that it was a hit.

Steyn had also testified that cellphone records revealed that Khumalo was in contact with accused 1 Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya.

Gouws also insisted that the cellphone numbers allegedly linked to all the accused were identified by Steyn.
