Vuyo Dabula returns to acting after recovering for over a year
After recovering physically and emotionally from a ‘horrible near-death experience’, Vuyo Dabula is ready to return to acting.RECOVERY AFTER TRAUMATIC INCIDENT
The actor, well-known for his role in Generations: The Legacy, was involved in a gun violence incident in December 2022. It left him with a seriouswound. He consequently took a break from his acting career to focus on his healing. After spending almost the entire 2023 recuperating, he is now fully recovered.
Apart from physical recovery, the ordeal was very traumatic, and therefore he also had to focus on recovering mentally and spiritually. He referred to the incident as a ‘horrible near-death experience’.
Dabula, 47, said he spent a lot of time during the past year to do some introspection and make self-care a priority, according to The Citizen.
“The most fulfilling part has been having time for myself to introspect and figure things out, as well as reconnecting with important relationships. The entertainment and film industry can be demanding, so having this time to solidify and anchor relationships has been invaluable.”

VUYO DABULA ON BALANCING WORK AND LIFE
In an interview with GQ, Dabula shared his insights regarding balancing his work and personal life. He said that it is important for him to not overwork himself and in turn have health issues because of it. He makes sure to put time aside for himself. Also, he prioritises giving time to important relationships in his life, adding that these ’empower and strengthen’ him.
“My support system is crucial to my best work. I make sure I’m not overbooked and communicate consistently with people around me about my schedule.”

During his recovery, the former Generations: The Legacy actor also spent time rediscovering his other interests, such as cooking. He said that he enjoys cooking for his son. Additionally, he has been getting back into playing the guitar.

Undoubtedly one of his best known roles to date was as Kumkani ‘Gaddafi’ Phakade in Generations: The Legacy. Many people know him simply as Gaddafi from the popular TV soap opera.
In the TV show, Gadaffi is a merciless thug who uses his charm to get on with life and his ruthlessness to get what he wants in the underworld. The character believes being tough is the only way to get what he wants.
Many viewers praised Dabula for his brilliant acting in this role. Letoya Makhene-Pulumo played his on-again, off-again wife in the TV show, Tshidi.
