Simphiwe Majozi (Sbu) opens a restaurant in real life

Uzalo actor Simphiwe Majozi has turned his character into his reality as he opens his restaurant business — Sbu&Ration’s Eatery in Newlands East, Durban.

Majozi stars in the TV drama series as Sbu Makhathini, a troublesome hustler.

Speaking to the publication, Majozi said the character he plays on Uzalo prompted him to open the eatery. “Yes, the character that I’m playing now is what gave me the push to open the restaurant. I asked myself that I used to sell food during my tertiary days in Pietermaritzburg, so why don’t I go back in that business and serve food to people like I used to do back in the days

“I’ve always had a passion for cooking, so iKishi lam (My Kitchen) back in Pietermaritzburg helped me pay up my tertiary education fees because there was no money, and I had to do something in order for me to complete my studies.”

Asked how he juggles acting and running the restaurant, Majozi said: “I’m running the eatery with my friend Cebolenkosi ‘Lacostaration’ Minange, who recently landed back in the country from Alaska. He’s my partner and runs [the] day-to-day operation of the business in my absence. I just don’t know people flock into the business for food or because I’m a good actor, but I’m humbled with the support.”
