‘She saw ambulances, fire trucks’: Mapula Khune’s vision of her death

Mapula Khune’s mother revealed that her 27-year-old daughter had a vision of her own death.

WHAT HAPPENED TO MAPULA KHUNE?
Mapula, sister of Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune, died in a tragic manner when the room she was in caught on fire in the early hours of Thursday 4 March.

Mapula’s burnt body was found in the backroom of her parents home near Ventersdorp in the North West Province.

The neighbours informed Mapula’s parents that their house was on fire, but Florah did not believe it and she went as far as to send away the fire fighters that came to their house. However, she soon realised the backroom was on fire.

“After sending them away, I found out that the backroom was indeed on fire. My husband and I screamed, hoping our daughter was not inside,” said Florah to the Daily Sun.

MAPULA KHUNE’S VISION OF HER DEATH
Florah also revealed that the night before her daughter’s death, a young boy came looking for her to help him with his homework. Mapula’s cousin later joined in to help the boy with his homework, but Mapula was too rattled as she told the boy that she had a disturbing vision.

“He wanted her to help him with his homework. I directed him to where Mapula was, but her cousin came later and helped the boy instead as Mapula told him she had a vision,” said Florah Khune to Daily Sun.

Interestingly, Mapula said she had seen fire trucks in her vision and she was killed by a fire.

“She said she saw ambulances, fire trucks and police,” her distraught mother added.

17-YEAR-OLD SUSPECT RELEASED DUE TO ‘INSUFFICIENT EVIDENCE’
A 17-year-old boy was arrested on Friday 5 March as a suspect in connection with the death of Mapula, but was later released due to “insufficient evidence”.

“What transpired today [on Monday] is that after going through the docket, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) realised that there is no sufficient evidence for us to institute a prosecution. So the docket has been send back to the police for further investigations. The suspect will be led free,” said North West NPA spokesperson Henry Mamothane, according to the SABC.

The Khune family plans to bury Mapula on Thursday 11 March. The date may change as the family is still awaiting forensic results.
