A video of Nombifuthi Meyiwa, the mother of the late Senzo Meyiwa, crying over her son’s unsolved murder case has gone viral. The matter is still in court.
The 26th of October 2023 marked 9 years since former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper, Senzo Meyiwa was brutally murdered in Vosloorus, Gauteng. In the near-decade that’s passed since his life was taken away, his family has come no closer to receiving closure over the tragedy as the case remains unsolved. The pain has taken its toll on his mother who was in tears on television explaining how difficult this period has been for her.
SENZO MEYIWA TRIAL WEIGHING HEAVY ON HIS MOTHER
As of Thursday 2 November 2023, the Senzo Meyiwa case is still in court and more importantly, still unsolved. The State continues to question the five accused of the crime, and one of the accused, Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, recently had a previous confession deemed inadmissible in court. The technicalities are complex, but for the Meyiwa family, the back and forth is adding further frustration.
It all came to a fore for Meyiwa’s mother who was filmed on national news in tears over the ongoing trial. Speaking to ENCA she said, “I cry, watch and ask myself why doesn’t my son’s killer have a conscience and understand the pain they’ve caused us? Why don’t they come forward and admit to the crime? Why are they making us suffer in this way? Because if they come forward and plead guilty to this murder, they will be arrested and might get parole in the future.
NINE DIFFICULT YEARS FOR THE MEYIWA FAMILY
Losing a child will always cast a dark light on a family, but the nature in which Senzo Meyiwa was murdered and the complicated case that’s followed has been especially painful for the Meyiwa clan. In 2019, Senzo’s father, Samuel Meyiwa passed away without seeing justice for his son.
The trial continues for the remainder of the week as the family and the country await further updates.
