Mpho Sebeng, a talented South African actor, was posthumously honored at the 2024 South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs) for his outstanding role in the telenovela *The Estate*. The SAFTAs recognized Sebeng’s contributions to acting, awarding him the title of Best Supporting Actor in a Telenovela. This recognition came as part of a competitive category, where he faced formidable contenders such as Seputla Sebogodi from *Redemption* and Thembinkosi Mthemby from *The River*. Sebeng’s portrayal of Skhumbozo garnered praise, solidifying his legacy even after his untimely death.

Prior to the SAFTAs, Sebeng had received nominations for the Annual Simon Mabhunu Sabela KZN Film and Television Awards for his role in *Ingoma*, but those nominations were later rescinded. The recognition at the SAFTAs marks a significant acknowledgment of his talent during a time of deep mourning for his fans and colleagues.
The announcement of Sebeng’s SAFTA win stirred mixed reactions among South African audiences. While many celebrated the honor, others felt that the recognition came too late, as highlighted by various comments on social media. One user, @sheldon_cameron, poignantly remarked, “My brother is not here to accept this. I hope he is smiling in heaven.”
