Makhadzi steals the show at the Basadi Awards

The Basadi In Music Awards celebrated Mzansi’s Mbokodos in style. It was a night of glitz and glamour as women of all colours were celebrated during the third leg of the Basadi In Music Awards 2024.

The prestigious ceremony took place at Joburg Theatre in Joburg on Saturday, 10 August. The theme for this year was “Girl In The Mirror – Our Reflection.” The night was full of dance and joy as stars like The Ngcobo Girls, Skye Wanda, Lady Zamar, and Mercy Phakela entertained the guests with their performances. The awards were hosted by Unathi Nkayi

Hloni Modise, the CEO of Basadi In Music Awards, told the publication that she was scared but looking forward to the big show. She said organising a show like this wasn’t easy as it takes time and energy.

“I am looking forward to this wonderful day as many people are here to celebrate with us. I’m happy with the results,” she said.

Mercy Phakela said she is happy they honoured her with a Lifetime Achievement Award. She said she was cancelled and sidelined by the industry.

“I was ready to give up on this music. I am happy to be alive and still celebrated,” she said.

The second Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Linah Ebony Ngcobo. She said this award meant a lot to her and her family.

“This is beautiful for me and everyone who has been with us from the beginning. We are nothing without you guys.

“We are who we are because of your love and support. We are here because of your support, not bribes,” she said.

DJ Zinhle was honoured with Trailblazer Of The Year and said her mum Jabu was always beside her. She said she has worked with women since she started her journey in the music industry.

DJ Zinhle said she has her awards outside South Africa and the Basadi In Music Awards is her first award in South Africa. The musician, whose real name is Zinhle Jiyane, said she was happy that she was recognised for her work.

“Thank you guys so much for this. I love you all and this means a lot to me,” she said.

Makhadzi, whose real name is Ndivhudzannyi Ralivhona, walked away with the award for Dance Artist Of The Year and International Achievement Award.
