Ishmael Songo, Chrispen Nyathi secure roles in ‘Cobrizi’

Lingashoni star Ishmael Songo and DiepCity star Chrispen Nyathi have secured roles in The River series, Cobrizi.

Mzansi Magic confirms that actors Ishmael Songo and Chrispen Nyathi will portray the roles of Peanut and Raisin in The River spin-off.

The duo will star alongside Sivenathi Mabuya, Winnie Ntshaba, Thapelo Sebogodi and Presley Chweneyagae.

The River spin-off series will focus on award-winning actor Presley Chweneyagae’s character Thuso “Cobra” Mokoena.

Cobrizi will premiere on Mzansi Magic (DStv channel 161) in March 2025.

BACKGROUND OF ‘COBRIZI’
Sowetan reports that the 13-episode series, Cobrizi will be produced by Tshedza Pictures duo Phathutshedzo Makwarela and Gwydion Beynon who produced the original telenovela, The River.

The show focuses on Cobra who moves to the inner-city Johannesburg. He unexpectedly finds love while on a quest to do right to his youngest child.

Other supporting cast members include Thembsie Matu who will portray the role of Ous Sheila and Sivenathi Mabuya who will play the role of Bongiwe.

Actor Paul Maila has also joined the show as Rajah, while Thobani Mbhele will play the character of Bangkok.

The Estate actress Moliehi Didie Makobane has also joined the show Teresia, while Siphiwe Radebe will play Simphiwe.

Actors Kadia Banyini will play Nkanyiso, Xolani Mfeka will portray the character of Bab’ Dladla, while Charmaine Mncwabe has joined the show as Ama.

House of Zwide star Thapelo Sebogodi will reprise his role as Cobra’s best friend, Kabzela while Winnie Ntshaba returns as Cobra’s mother-in-law and Paulina’s mother, Zodwa.
