Sports, Arts and Culture Minister Gayton McKenzie reveals that Miss SA is a private company and he’s not invited to the event on Saturday, 10 August.
GAYTON MCKENZIE: ‘THERE’S STILL A BIG DISPUTE’
The Patriotic Alliance leader, Gayton McKenzie who was recently a guest on Robert Marawa’s show also adds that no Zimbabwean, no Nigerian, no Italian should become Miss South Africa.
Robert Marawa: “This is part of your Arts and Culture side of things. The 66th edition of Miss SA, 10 August, Sunbet Arena is happening, do you have your invitation?”
McKenzie replies: “No. I can’t go if I’m not invited. It’s not a department that falls directly under. There’s still a big dispute. It’s a private company.”
When Marawa asks the minister if this should change, he says: “I haven’t had a chance to look at it and say, do we need this? We’ve never had a situation like the one we are having now, with Miss Vanessa.”
McKenzie adds: “In 2068, I will still hold the view that no Nigerian, no Zimbabwean, no Italian, no American should become Miss South Africa. There’s Miss World for those things.”
This comes after he recently trended on social media for sharing his views about Miss SA finalist, Chidimma Vanessa Adetshina.
“We truly cannot have Nigerians compete in our Miss SA competition. I will get the facts and return with an answer, this is not gossip. That video raises legitimate suspicion,” said McKenzie.
His comments come after Adetshina trended on Monday, 29 July when a video of her celebrating with her Nigerian fans and family went viral.
Adetshina confirmed in an interview with Sowetan that her father is Nigerian, and her mother is of Mozambique descent.
