Legendary actor Vusi Kunene who recently exited House of Zwide as Funani Zwide has returned to Generations: The Legacy.
VUSI KUNENE REPRISES VILLAIN ROLE
Entertainment commentator Mlu confirms that actor Vusi Kunene has rejoined SABC1’s soapie Generations: The Legacy.
“Get ready for a return of the iconic supervillain, Jack Mabaso! Vusi Kunene reprises his role on #GenerationsTheLegacy from 14th Aug, bringing the terror and respect back to SA TV,” he wrote on X.
The TVSA Generations: The Legacy August teasers reveal that someone is returning from the dead, on Wednesday, 14 August.
Wednesday 14 August: “Guess who’s back from the dead?”
Thursday 22 August: “Sphe is in a bad way after the shock she received.”
Kunene’s return comes after the Shaka Ilembe star took a break from his role as Funani Zwide in House of Zwide.
House of Zwide has been renewed for a fourth season following increased viewership. The Broadcasting Research Council of South Africa (BRCSA) May and June figures reveal that the telenovela is the most-watched show on e.tv with over 4 million viewers.
DEPARTURE: ‘GENERATIONS: THE LEGACY’
The award-winning actor Vusi Kunene exited Generations: The Legacy as Jack Mabaso in 2021 to join e.tv’s House of Zwide.
The SABC1 soapie and the actor confirmed he is taking a break from the show in a statement to TshisaLIVE.
Kunene revealed that playing the villainous character has been thrilling for him. He adds that it has been a pleasure for him to breathe life into the character.
“I’ve always had a serious passion for Jack. He is the most popular character I have ever played and bringing him to life has been a pleasure. I’m really going to miss everyone because Generations is like a family,” he said.
Generations: The Legacy producer Karen Vundla praised the actor and said they were sad to see him leave.
“Vusi Kunene is one of SA’s most talented actors and it has been a privilege for us to enjoy a long history with him. We are incredibly sad to see him go but we wish him all the best in the new projects he chooses to pursue.”
