It’s been a little over a month since Gayton McKenzie vowed to lose weight and “look his part” as the Minister of Sport, Art and Culture.
And like he’s promised, he’s already seeing the rewards of his labour after adopting a healthier lifestyle.
He’s even run a five-kilometre marathon and challenged South Africans to join him for a weekly fitness workout.
GAYTON MCKENZIE SHOWS OFF WEIGHT LOSS
On Wednesday, 14 August, Gayton McKenzie revealed the results of his healthier lifestyle, which included an impressive weight loss.
He tweeted: “I lost 1,6kgs in the last seven days. I have lost 9kgs since I started this weight loss journey. I am feeling much better and healthier.
Encouraging other South Africans, he added: “Please join the ‘Wednesday Weight Challenge,’ start by walking and eating right.”

Gayton’s inspiring tweet comes just weeks after he completed a five-kilometre Mandela Day run for charity.
He said at the time, “Running a 5km race is not pap en vleis when you’re overweight. This was great fun; runners are cool.”

After being sworn in as the Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, the outspoken politician pledged to “run every day.”
He tweeted: You can’t have such an overweight Minister of Sports, Arts & Culture. I must look like my job”.
In 2019, Gayton also went on a 90-day fitness challenge and lost a significant amount of weight.
ADVICE FROM TIM NOAKES
Like many X users, fitness guru Tim Noakes – known for his banting diet – congratulated Gayton McKenzie on his new lifestyle.
The author and professor tweeted: “Very glad you’ve added the eating right addendum.
“A 1.6kg weight loss per week is exactly what we see in overweight persons adopting the sugar-free, processed food-free, low-carbohydrate, high-fat, nutrient-dense, fully-satiating, hunger-busting diet. Wishing you continued success going forward”.
Dear Minister @GaytonMcK, Very glad you’ve added the “eating right” addendum. Exactly what are you eating if I might ask?
