RODERICK JAFTHA: ‘I AM STRUGGLING TO PAY RENT’
Zimoja reports that the former Generations and Rhythm City actor Roderick Jaftha is asking for help.
Jaftha who is married with four children can’t afford to pay R2500 rent for a single room where he stays.
The actor tells the publication that he doesn’t have food for his kids, and he’s been surviving on handouts from friends and family members.
“I am struggling to pay rent. I have small kids, and two of them are still at school,” says the actor.
He adds: “Since I only speak Afrikaans and English, it is hard for me to get those roles. I have been getting gigs, but nothing significant.”
Japhta says he wrote an email to Minister Gayton MacKenzie asking for help, but he’s received no response yet.
When he’s asked why he doesn’t reach out to Generations creator, Mfundi Vundla to offer him gigs. Japhta says his relationship with Vundla was not the best.

FORMER ‘GENERATIONS’ ACTOR ‘DRAMATIC CHANGE’ ON ‘RHYTHM CITY’
Speaking to TshisaLIVE in 2017, the former Generations actor Roderick Jaftha described the sad circumstances that led to his dramatic change in appearance.
The 61-year-old who appeared in e.tv’s Rhythm City at the time said: “It wasn’t drugs or alcohol that made me change. It was stress, sadness and despair. It was unemployment for over three years.”
Jaftha added that people assume that he left Generations and went straight into a downward spiral, but that was not the case.
Life went on for me after the soapie. He did other productions like Villa Rosa, where he played the character called Dr Anthony Jackson until the show was replaced. He was not on mainstream TV, but he was working.
