DJ Tira opens up about his life and career in new docu-series! Legendary Afrotainment boss DJ Tira is ready to address the stories and controversies surrounding his life and career.
His new three-part docu-series, Afrotainment iSgubhu Sase Dubane, premiered on Channel O on Saturday, 7 December, and promises an intimate look at his personal and professional journey.
The series features not only Tira but also his wife, Gugu Khathi, and a host of collaborators and friends, including Dladla Mshunqisi, Danger, and DJ Fresh, among others. Over the next two weeks, fans will gain unprecedented insight into the man behind the hits and the label that has shaped South African music for decades.
Sharing His Journey
Speaking to Daily Sun, the 48-year-old DJ expressed his motivation for creating the series.
“I’ve always wanted to share my life’s journey and inspire those who come after me. It was also important for me to showcase Afrotainment as a label—where we come from and where we’re going,” Tira explained.
The series doesn’t shy away from controversy either. Known for his resilience in the face of challenges, Tira said he is unafraid to confront allegations or misconceptions about him.
“For me, it’s important to face whatever allegations are out there, especially if you know you’re clean and doing your best. Mina angisabi lutho (I’m not afraid of anything),” he added.
A Personal and Collaborative Effort
The docu-series takes a deeply personal approach, featuring individuals who have significantly impacted Tira’s journey. He invited not only industry collaborators but also close family members to participate in the show.

“It was a matter of bringing people I’ve worked with on my journey, people who have contributed to Tira and Afrotainment. It’s personal. I even brought in my mother in one of the episodes,” he revealed.
With two episodes yet to air, Tira is excited for audiences to experience the full story.
“I can’t wait to see the next episodes. I know it will be fun.”
Celebrating 24 Years in the Industry
As he celebrates an impressive 24 years in the music industry, Tira reflected on his journey from humble beginnings to becoming a household name. Originally from KwaHlabisa, Tira moved to Durban to study and fell in love with music—a passion that has defined his life ever since.
“My journey in the industry has been quite smooth. There have been bumpy roads and turbulence, but I’ve lived a simple life as a young boy from KwaHlabisa who pursued his dream. And now, DJ Tira is still here, and Afrotainment is still making hits—no scandals,” he said proudly.
