Amapiano musician DJ Melzi – real name Tumelo Mphai – has dismissed rumours linking him to embattled Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) commissioner Dr Nomsa Masuku.
IEC COMMISSIONER DR NOMSA MASUKU’S FRAUD CHARGES
On Friday, 21 June, Masuku was arrested by the Hawks for R1.2 million in fraud which was meant for student scholarships and bursaries.
During the alleged fraudulent crime, Dr Masuku was a Standard Bank employee heading the Adopt A School Trust — a corporate social investment programme at the bank.
Dr Masuku appeared at the Johannesburg Specialised Commercial Crimes Court which sits in the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court where she was granted R20 000 bail. The case has been postponed to 4 September 2024.
DJ MELZI DENIES ANY RELATION TO THE IEC’S DR MASUKU
Following the IEC commissioner’s arrest, some social media users linked her to DJ Melzi as they claimed she is his mother. This was after the 23-year-old musician, who is often pictured next some of the most expensive cars, raised questions for purchasing a R4.3 million Mercedes Benz.
In recent a social media post, DJ Melzi debunked the claims as he denied aby relation to Dr Masuku.
“Recent rumours and speculation about my relation to Dr Masuku are completely unfounded and untrue,” said the artist.
“I would like to clarify that I have no affiliation or relationship with Dr Masuku and I are not involved in any way [sic].
“Furthermore, I would like to mention that my parents are very private and appeal to all, not to involve them in social media platforms,” he added.
ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIP WITH ‘SKEEM SAAM’ ACTRESS
This is not the first time that DJ Melzi has been a tralending topic. In April this year, rumours of his romantic relationship with Skeem Saam star Lethabo Mekoa, set tongues wagging.
TshisaLIVE reported that the DJ had surprised Mekoa — who plays the character Ntswaki in Skeem Saam — with flowers and the pair had made their relationship official on social media.
A source told the outlet that DJ Melzi was “fresh from a serious relationship and didn’t take the break-up well”.
The Ngalo Tshwala DJ was previously in a relationship with Andiswa Selepe, famously known as The Bomb, which turned sour after he reportedly cheated.
“He is to invested in his relationship with Lethabo. He wants to make things right this time around and keep things discreet. But everyone can see that they really love each other,” the source said.
However, when contacted for a comment, DJ Melzi refused to addressed the reports about his love life.
