Celebrated South African rapper Da L.E.S, ‘The North God’, is currently recovering at a private hospital in Johannesburg after suffering a stroke on Friday evening.
According to a statement, Da L.E.S suffered a stroke at his Bryanston mansion on his 39th birthday.
THE NORTH GOD HOSPITALISED AFTER SUFFERING STROKE
However, as fans processed the unexpected news of his stroke, online publication ZiMoja claimed that friends of Da L.E.S and his family were appealing to the public for donations for his medical bills.
ZiMoja has it that Da L.E.S.’ friends sent a note to close friends and associates stating that his mother, Priscilla Mampe, would appreciate assistance and acts of kindness in raising funds for his medical bills.
“As support to Leslie’s family while Les is in the hospital, we are encouraging friends to assist in kind to Leslie’s mother’s account,” the note reads.
Social media was abuzz about the alleged note, with many flooding social media with their two cents. Some fans made it known that Da L.E.S. should be transferred to a public hospital if he cannot foot his medical bills.
Some were more than puzzled that he couldn’t foot his medical bills, given his life of glitz and glamour. Over the years, he has wowed many with his soft life, from designer clothes that cost a fortune to exclusive All White parties.
DA L.E.S FAMILY DENIES ASKING FOR DONATIONS FOR DONATIONS TO FOOT RAPPER’S MEDICAL BILLS
Against the trends, Da L.E.S’ family has finally responded to the backlash, claiming that the donation story was taken out of context. The Mampe has made it known that they never asked for assistance, as alleged.
Taking it to X, formerly Twitter, entertainment commentator Phil Mphela revealed that the We On Fire hitmaker’s friends and associates pledged to help his family with expenses. However, the message spread broader and was later distorted to suggest that it was the family’s request. Mphela shared a series of tweets shedding more light on the issue.
Phil Mphela posted, “Da Les’ family DID NOT ask for donations. Some clarity on the trending topic of the Mampe family asking for donations to cover the rapper’s medical bills has revealed that it was Da Les’ friends who started the call as a gesture of support.”
Another post reads, “Apparently, close friends and business associates of Da L.E.S. took it upon themselves to gather donations for the family and reached out to Da L.E.S’ mom for her bank details and informed her that they’d like to send the family money in support of Da L.E.S.”
His tweets have undoubtedly gained thousands of comments and reactions since they dropped online. Mzansi was quick to accuse the family of damage control after a social media backlash.
