Winnie Ntshaba on Royalty Soapie Awards

Popular South African actress Winnie Ntshaba is excited about this year’s Royalty Soapie Awards. Winnie who is the founder of the annual awards spoke to Daily Sun about the purpose of the event.

“They’re celebrating excellence in the soapie world. I sat and felt like soapies are the most watched shows on TV. I mean we command an audience of 20 million daily, think about it, but we were not celebrated enough,” she said.“There are people who put in so much work, especially the crew and those who work behind the scenes. So, I thought, let’s celebrate them as well, so that they are motivated and when someone gives you a pat on the back you get motivated to do more,” she said.“We’re hoping brands, corporates and the Department of Sport, Arts, and Culture will give us funding. It’s been my wish to give people money as well, not only trophies,” she said.

“When you know there’s somebody watching you want to put in your 100% into whatever you’re doing at the end of the day you’ll also shine,” she said.

The awards ceremony is set for 24 August at the Heartfield Arena, Pretoria.

“Nominees are happening on 24 July, and it’s going to be exciting. We’re growing and each year we try to take it a notch higher. We want to also celebrate 30 years of democracy.”
