Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule, the esteemed founder of the Crown Gospel Music Awards and a well-known Ukhozi FM radio personality, has passed away. Her death was confirmed by her husband, Bishop Nkambule, in a statement released earlier today.
“It is with a heavy heart that the Nkambule and Mbokazi families announce the passing of our dearly beloved Ms. Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule, the founder of the Crown Gospel Music Awards and a cherished Ukhozi FM radio personality,” read the statement from Bishop Nkambule.

😭😭😭💔💔💔💔🕯️I have learnt with shock and sadness of the passing of Ukhozi FM presenter, Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule. Zanele Mbokazi was a pioneer and touched the lives of many. She was a media personality, but many will recall that she was the founder of the Crown Gospel Awards, which are often referred to as the “Grammys of gospel music in South Africa” since they their inception in 2007.
Zanele Mbokazi was born and raised in Durban in KwaZulu-Natal, and she spent most of her life in the province. She grew in prominence in radio and in the South African gospel music industry. Her contribution, by promoting gospel music talent from KZN and beyond, through the Crown Gospel Awards certainly changed many people’s lives and fortunes. Her legacy continues to be celebrated in KZN and across South Africa.
It is with a heavy heart that we have started the week and Women’s Month, with the sad news of Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule’s untimely passing. On behalf of the people of KwaZulu-Natal and Provincial Government, I extend my heartfelt condolences to Ukhozi FM listeners, her colleagues, and the family of the beloved radio personality, Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule. Grief has gripped the airwaves of her beloved Ukhozi FM as listeners, colleagues, friends come to terms with this immense loss.
We had every hope that she was going to recover from her illness because Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule was not merely a presenter, she was a beacon of hope and inspiration in the broadcasting industry. Through her show “Eshilo” which was broadcast every Sunday morning from 9am to 12, she connected with people on a personal level, making each one feel seen and heard.
Her passion for radio and commitment to providing quality content made her an irreplaceable part of our community, and her absence will be deeply felt. For dedicating her life to uplift others by spreading messages of hope, faith, and resilience, she deserves to be applauded. It is for this reason that I have recommended that government officially takes part in the funeral arrangements, guided by the family.

The 23-year-old gave up on her dreams after the Home Affairs Department found out that her mother was involved in fraud years ago.

Shebeshxt’s Return: The musician raised brows early this week after announcing his first music concert which is themed My Music, My Story. Shebeshxt was expected to be off the radar due to the death of her daughter.

Mihlali Ndamase and Leeroy Sidambe’s Drama: The alleged couple got social media busy this week after Mihlali revealed that she was abused by her estranged lover. Leeroy replied to the accusation with a statement which said that the influencer sustained bruises while he was trying to protect himself against her, as she held a knife to stab him due to an alleged infidelity.

Tyla trended for hours after US streamer Kai Cenat played an unreleased track which featured the South African singer, Rema and 21 Savage.

Botswana observes public holiday because of Tebogo’s Olympic win

President of Botswana, Dr. Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi honours Sprinter Tebogo Letsile by declaring a public holiday today.

Tebogo made history and made his nation proud as he became the first African to win a gold medal in the men’s 200m after defeating two United States of America sprinters in the final at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

In a statement released, the President declared a half-day holiday to celebrate Letsile’s win.

“Public Holiday in Botswana🇧🇼 The president of Botswana has declared a ‘half-day public holiday’ across the country to celebrate Letsile Tebogo, the country’s first athlete to win a GOLD medal at the Olympics.”

“Botswana citizens will get an ‘afternoon day off’ on Friday as a tribute to Tebogo who brought joy to their country on Thursday, winning the GOLD medal in men’s 200m; the first African to win this title.”

Miss SA 2024 is Mia le Roux

Mia le Roux has been crowned Miss South Africa 2024 at the finale of the pageant held in Pretoria on Saturday, 10 August.

Bonang Matheba hosted the event, and she came prepared as she made sizzling fashion statements with the 5 outfits rocked.

Miss SA 2024 which held at the SunBet Arena at Times Square, Pretoria saw the previous winner Natasha Joubert pass the crown down to the new winner.

Mia is 28 years old from Oudtshoorn, a marketing manager, model, and part-time BCom marketing student.

Le Roux was diagnosed with profound hearing loss at the age of one and shared that her community rallied behind her to give her the gift of hearing, inspiring her desire to make a positive impact and break barriers.

The runners-ups were Nompumelelo Maduna and Onalenna Constantin.
