In the photo, Owens is seen draped in Biles’ gold medal from the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The accompanying caption praised Biles for her historic win, writing, “Congrats baby on becoming the most decorated American gymnast in Olympic history!!!!

Just wow!!!! 8 of them!!!!! So thankful I was there to see it ❤️🤍💙.”

Another user expressed confusion, stating, “Why is he holding it like he won it?” and a third added, “Give the medal back bby [sic] that’s not yours.”

This backlash was a reminder of a previous controversy involving Owens, which was reignited by the medal photo.

JONATHAN OWENS PAST COMMENTS
The renewed criticism also brought back Owens’ past remarks from a December podcast episode.

On Pivot, he admitted that he was unfamiliar with Biles before they started dating.

“I’m like, ‘Lemme see who this is.’ I never really paid attention to gymnastics,” he said, despite Biles’ considerable fame.

Further compounding the issue were Owens’ comments from the same podcast where he stated he was “the catch” in their relationship.

He added, “I always say that the men are the catch.”

These remarks led to significant backlash, although Biles defended her husband at the time, calling the critics “disrespectful.”

Despite the ongoing criticism, Jonathan Owens has been a supportive presence for Biles.

He attended the Olympics in Paris, where he sought permission from the Chicago Bears to be there, as the NFL team was gearing up for the new season.

Some fans rallied to Owens’ side, pointing out that not everyone follows every sport closely.

A SUPPORTIVE KING
One supporter wrote, “Y’all are so miserable to keep bringing up his comment of not knowing who she is.

This man loves that girl through and through and they make such a fly couple! Congratulations Simone.”

Biles herself seemed unbothered by the online uproar.

She responded to Jonathan Owens’ post with a loving comment: “My whole heart. I love you ❤️❤️❤️❤️.”

She also added, “Means the world you’re here.”

Amid the drama, rapper Flavour Flav chimed in to offer support, commenting, “Everyone luvs a supportive KING 👑 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾.”

A POWER COUPLE

Despite the occasional online storm, their relationship continues to draw admiration from many.

The medal photo incident highlights the complex nature of public scrutiny faced by celebrities and their partners.

While Owens’ gesture may have been intended as a loving tribute, it also serves as a reminder of the expectations and criticisms that come with being in the public eye.
