Sanele Zulu, the series’ producer, said his legacy will continue to live on.
“The cast and crew will always cherish memories and moments experienced with Mathews. He’s an amazing talent, and we wish him all the best and thank him for his contribution to the show,” Sanele said.
Mathews thanked everyone for their support and love.
“Thank you to the crew that I worked with. One of the most important things for me is the unity that came about when we told stories together,” he said.
“People are more exposed to the actors and the directors, some writers and producers, but they never really know the crew – the people who create the magic. They made telling stories comfortable.”
He said they made him vulnerable and comfortable, and this helped shape certain parts of the story of his character.
“And for that, I’ll always be grateful. To everyone at Scandal!, to everyone watching Scandal!, to everyone who supports Scandal! Thank you,” he concluded.
Mathews said viewers will see him on other shows. The actor’s funeral held on Thursday, 1 August at 7.30pm.
