RIP: Government mourns passing of actress Connie Chiume

The government has joined the film and acting industry to mourn the passing of multi-award-winning veteran actress, Connie Chiume.

The 72-year-old died in hospital on Tuesday afternoon following a short illness.

Chiume, whose career started in the 1980s, has been described as having left an indelible mark on the hearts of many in the country.

The inimitable Connie Chiume made South Africans proud as she featured in the Marvel Comics blockbuster, Black Panther.

But this one international hit doesn’t quite capture the magic of the Welkom-born actress, who also lived and plied her trade abroad.

Her work includes Porgy and Bess, Ipi Ntombi, Inkom’edla Yodwa, and in the most recent years, Rhythm City, Zone 14, Yizo Yizo, and Gomora, among several others.

Her family is yet to share details of her memorial.

All the while, tributes continue to pour in for a legendary actress as her final curtain is called.
