WHAT LERATO NXUMALO BOUGHT FOR R5000
The YouTuber and actress Lerato Nxumalo’s R5000 grocery haul video went viral on social media and was viewed over 1million times on Richard Sales’ Instagram account.

A surprised Richard Sales’ begins his review by stating: “280 dollars for all of that? I am moving, I’m to South Africa, I swear.”

He also asks his followers: “How much would this cost in the UK or USA?”

@cakesJaglas says: “Easily $800, depending on where you shop you could maybe get it down to $600/$700, but easily $800.”

@IamSamChaveiller replies with laughing emojis: “8000 in New York.”

South Africans reveal in the comment section that inflation is hitting everyone, and food is also expensive in the country.

@Shannonbr.wn from South Africa says: “That is almost 4-5k in South African rands. As astonishing as this is to a first world citizen, it’s almost unthinkable for the average South African citizen to purchase. In some cases, that alone would be someones salary for the entire month. As cool as the video is, as shocking as it seems, it’s nothing but a stark reminder of the poverty gap we are facing in our country.”

The video shows that Nxumalo bought washing powder, chicken, beef, toilet paper, cereal, cool drinks, energy drinks, spices and fruits and vegetables.@jonas_lacey: “$280 is close to R5k by the way”

@oso_dangerous: “Someone has a sweet tooth with those drinks.”

@SamanthaKhuzwayo: “Iphi i10kg ye rice Lerato kwi mali engaka” (where’s the 10kg rice).

@neliswa_nelli: “Rice and mealie meal ezincinci so kwi 5k” (so small, only in 5k).

@Uviwe23: “Wow, looks fortifying and pricey at the same time.”

@Heycindii: “Guys, who do y’all secretly live with because this is a lot of food for one person.”

@lukhunaofficial: “I don’t mind buying groceries for my apartment. The problem starts when I have to pack it into the cupboards. Iyagqilaza oe!”

@mkhulu.mkayiso: “I feel like kuncani (small) for the amount. 😢😭😭😭💔 The items are great, can I come get a plate?”

@thobeka_thala; “That is plus minus R4900, ey our rand kodwa msindisi.”
