Actress Yolanda Myeza, known for her role in the popular series Sibongile and The Dlamini, is mourning the loss of her mother, Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule. The beloved Ukhozi FM presenter and founder of the Crown Gospel Awards passed away in the early hours of Monday, August 12, 2024, at Parklands Hospital in Durban after a courageous battle with lung cancer, Daily Sun reported.

Zanele, 52, was a prominent figure in the South African media landscape, particularly known for her Sunday show, Eshilo, on Ukhozi FM. Her diagnosis came in May, following a series of health struggles that began in April when she first failed to present her show. Despite her resilience, her condition worsened, leading to her hospitalization at the end of April.


 

 

 
The news of her passing has sent shockwaves, with Yolanda reportedly breaking down upon hearing the devastating news. Yolanda Myeza has been a steadfast support for her mother throughout her battle with cancer, demonstrating unwavering love and commitment during a challenging time. The recent loss of her mother, Zanele, has left Yolanda utterly heartbroken, as she deeply cherished their bond. This profound grief highlights the emotional toll that losing a parent can take, especially after enduring the struggles of illness together.

A family statement confirmed the loss, highlighting the deep impact Zanele had on her loved ones and the broader community. Her husband, Bishop Mpendulo Nkambule, expressed gratitude for the outpouring of prayers and support during her illness. “This is sad news; she is resting now, and I thank all congregants and listeners for their prayers and support. As a family, we are hurt, and we know that listeners and the Ukhozi FM family are also hurt. We are praying to God to comfort us,” he stated, adding that funeral arrangements would be communicated in due course.The loss of Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule is felt deeply not only by her family but also by her colleagues and listeners at Ukhozi FM. Sbongi Ngcobo, the station’s boss, extended condolences to Zanele’s family, presenters, and listeners. “I would like to thank Ukhozi FM listeners; they were with us on this journey, and she was in their prayers. I ask people to give the family space and be responsible on social media about what they write regarding Zanele’s death,” she urged.

Yolanda Myeza, just 21 years old, is navigating this profound loss while also pursuing her passion for the arts. A native of Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, Yolanda has dedicated her life to acting since she was seven years old. She recently completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Live Performance at AFDA Durban, focusing on both film and stage acting, and is currently pursuing an Honours degree in Film Producing. Her journey in the arts is now intertwined with a personal tragedy, making this time particularly challenging for the young actress.

KWAZULU-NATAL LEGISLATURE STATEMENT ON THE PASSING ON OF MS ZANELE MBOKAZI-NKAMBULE
The KwaZulu-Natal Legislature sends its deepest condolences to the Nkambule and the
Mbokazi family on the passing on of Mrs Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule, the founder of the
Crown Gospel Music Awards and a veteran radio and television presenter. The former Ukhozi fm presenter who passed away in the morning of the 12th of August following being diagnosed with lung cancer in May this year.
Paying tribute to Mrs Mbokazi-Nkambule, the Speaker of the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature, Nontembeko Boyce described Mrs Mbokazi Nkambule’s passing as a huge loss for South Africa adding that she contributed immensely to building and promoting gospel music. Ms Boyce has called for more cancer awareness campaigns.
“We are saddened by the news of the passing of Mrs Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule. We extend our condolences to her family, friends, Gospel Powerhouse, Ukhozi fm and the entire Gospel fraternity. We pray for them that may God give them strength and courage in this time of grief,” said Boyce.
“We appreciate the work done by the South African National Aids Council on cancer awareness campaign The Pink Drive. We believe it has assisted in closing the care gap, enabling families to better care for their loved ones, providing information and educating local communities about different types of cancers and their screening methods; health rights and general health screening,” said Boyce

Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule, the esteemed founder of the Crown Gospel Music Awards and a well-known Ukhozi FM radio personality, has passed away. Her death was confirmed by her husband, Bishop Nkambule, in a statement released earlier today.
“It is with a heavy heart that the Nkambule and Mbokazi families announce the passing of our dearly beloved Ms. Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule, the founder of the Crown Gospel Music Awards and a cherished Ukhozi FM radio personality,” read the statement from Bishop Nkambule.


 

 

 

 

 

 

😭😭😭💔💔💔💔🕯️I have learnt with shock and sadness of the passing of Ukhozi FM presenter, Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule. Zanele Mbokazi was a pioneer and touched the lives of many. She was a media personality, but many will recall that she was the founder of the Crown Gospel Awards, which are often referred to as the “Grammys of gospel music in South Africa” since they their inception in 2007.
Zanele Mbokazi was born and raised in Durban in KwaZulu-Natal, and she spent most of her life in the province. She grew in prominence in radio and in the South African gospel music industry. Her contribution, by promoting gospel music talent from KZN and beyond, through the Crown Gospel Awards certainly changed many people’s lives and fortunes. Her legacy continues to be celebrated in KZN and across South Africa.
It is with a heavy heart that we have started the week and Women’s Month, with the sad news of Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule’s untimely passing. On behalf of the people of KwaZulu-Natal and Provincial Government, I extend my heartfelt condolences to Ukhozi FM listeners, her colleagues, and the family of the beloved radio personality, Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule. Grief has gripped the airwaves of her beloved Ukhozi FM as listeners, colleagues, friends come to terms with this immense loss.
We had every hope that she was going to recover from her illness because Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule was not merely a presenter, she was a beacon of hope and inspiration in the broadcasting industry. Through her show “Eshilo” which was broadcast every Sunday morning from 9am to 12, she connected with people on a personal level, making each one feel seen and heard.
Her passion for radio and commitment to providing quality content made her an irreplaceable part of our community, and her absence will be deeply felt. For dedicating her life to uplift others by spreading messages of hope, faith, and resilience, she deserves to be applauded. It is for this reason that I have recommended that government officially takes part in the funeral arrangements, guided by the family.
