Katlego Danke bids farewell to Connie Chiume

Actress Katlego Danke who played Connie Chiume’s daughter, Thati in Gomora mourns her on-screen mother who played Mam Sonto.


 

The family of the actress confirmed in a statement that she passed away on Tuesday in hospital.

The actress Katlego Danke was amongst the speakers at Connie Chiume’s funeral ceremony on Thursday, 15 August at Oasis of Life Family Church in Daveyton, Ekurhuleni

Danke says they’ve learned valuable lessons from Chiume, who was their [actors] mother on-screen and off-screen.

“Every day on set, although it had its challenges and struggles, also brought with it valuable lessons. That joy was linked to Mama,” she said.

“You brought your heart and soul to it, pushing boundaries. You were passionate about your craft, and you were just as passionate about your role as a mom.”

Chiume, who is famously known for her roles in Gomora, Black Panther and Zone 14 died at the age of 72 after a period of illness.

Danke also took to social media on Friday, 16 August to thank South Africans for supporting her.

She wrote: “Thank you everyone for your kindness and support. I still can’t find the words, but it is well. Mama will rest in peace. May God bless you all.”
